Sit Tight Radio had a fabulous 2019, covering our Aussie events live cross country day and brought you the monthly News Show. I’d like to thank all my co commentators that called the action in true sit tight style, I’ll try to not leave anyone out so let’s go from the beginning.
Equestriad, Merran Wallace took the reins for dressage commentary and rider interviews, a great start! Sunday we had Greg McNamara take the microphone, which he found reasonably daunting but soon got into the fun. Rounding out the day Katie Taliana (not competing due to being preggy) set sail on a reputably quiet pony – fire breathing dragon, to bring us the live action of the second part of the course.
Sydney 3DE. Katie Henderson aka Hendo, representative of HET and I covered the always fun first horse inspection on Thursday. Dressage day dressage diva Zanna Northam brought us the right amount of sparkles to brighten up the morning session and Holly Lewis was a first time co commentator for sit tight and sparkled through the afternoon session of sand dancing. Saturday was an interesting day as the early part of cross country was situated at the furthest part of the SIEC venue (somewhere near Fairfield) Libby Lowery took her position over yonder hill to bring us the 95 class, my job situated at the edge of the main arena was to follow the scores. CCI 2, 3 and 4 star visited the main arena for a couple of fences, so I was lucky to have eyes out on course to keep track of the action. Big thanks to Prue Barrett for being amazing! Sunday show jumping, Hendo was fabulous again taking the microphone and the comfy blue couch for the coloured poles. Thanks to Kelato sponsoring the Tipping Competition, which really keeps our listeners interested to the last horse on course to win the fabulous prizes.
Taupo Oceanic Team challenge. The plans to cover this New Zealand 3DE live were dashed by the double booking the date with a clinic in Mildura for me to coach. Some searching the eventing family and alighting 2 fabulous additions to the sit tight team. Jade Findlay gave us the good oil after the first horse inspection, including her best effort at telling us how the Team event would be scored, Tokyo Olympics style. Laura Rae brought us the daily wrap up of the competition, some rider interviews and Facebook live streaming our Aussie riders cross country rounds. The final show jumping day neither of us were able to bring you due to being on a jet plane or coming very close to missing one (that’s a whole story for another day!). So, Sam Lyle gave us the coaches view of the Tokyo scoring and chatted about Nelson Pessoa and his training our Aussie team.
Melbourne 3DE. First day horse inspection, we had fun with Lindsey “Nairny” trying very hard to keep up to 2 runways, chaos and sparkles. Alex Townsend came up to the white box, we had a ball which is most unusual for dressage day! Success Masters sponsored for listeners to tune in free, a huge hit. Cross country commentary, Prue, Linds and myself, the dream team reunited! Show jumping day we had Nina Clarke and Seumas Marwood, 2 of our favourite Victorian team members, in the salubrious warm commentary position. Alex was outstanding again. In general a star studded team!
Canberra ODE, we were very lucky to have Sue Tuffnell and hubby Chris joining the team for cross country day. A truly spectacular cross country course to commentate.
Goulburn ODE, this is the final time we will bring you cross country from “Lynton”. A sad occasion as this was very first effort for Sit Tight Radio 5 years ago, insert sad face emoji here.
Adelaide International 3DE. A new discovery for our commentary team Charlie Germein. Trot up, Wednesday afternoon and a day of dressage Thursday was a great start to our favourite event of the year. Thanks Charlie! Linds, Hendo, Prue and the occasional drop in the blue couch kept the action interesting for our final event for 2019. (I’m exhausted just thinking about it!) This year Britt Grovenor was the Sit Tight Radio photographer, I hope you saw the amazing pics that were available free from Facebook, see either Brittany Grovenor or Sit Tight posts. Thanks also to Castlefin sponsoring the Tipping Competition.
I truly hope all our listeners had as much fun as we did bringing you the live action. If you’d like to listen to any of the replays I have made them free!
Sending best wishes to all our followers in this terrible time of fires and drought, take extra special care of yourselves and furry friends. I hope to bring some news of 2020 soon. Till then Merry Christmas and Happy and safe New Year.
