Sit Tight Radio had a wonderful birthday weekend at Goulburn Horse Trials, held at the stunning property Lynton. We were delighted to offer our hospitality, and we loved having our speakers set up at the road crossing as it made for such a great atmosphere. A small but appreciative crowd even gathered around Marcia at the water jump – and they could only hear one end of the conversation!
So here is the slightly overdue awards ceremony!
The SAT TIGHT! Award
It is more common for the STR SAT TIGHT! Award to be awarded for some piece of cross country action (and Isabel English gave it a red hot go trying to stay aboard Feldale Mouse after he left his entire leg and shoulder on the entry to the water) but this time the battle was decided in the dressage phase. Rachael Lee had a few interesting dressage warm-up moments, but Niki Rose (nee Chappers) demonstrated not only stickability when Glenorchy South Park had a very rude Buck Up in his test but also a real Will-Do attitude, i.e. you WILL do this test properly and we WILL come back into the warm-up and discuss why you WON’T do that again.
Whip Wielders Anonymous
We did see a few people swing the whip, but no-one does it with as much style (or is that regularity?) as Gordon Bishop. After his ride on Moves Like Jagger in the CIC Three Star, where he busted out the Whip Hand Wave on a number of occasions (forget the Harlem Shake people, this is where it’s at!) even Gordon knew he’d be up for some notoriety!
The Best Buy Award
There have been a few top level horses change stables of late, so we got to see a number of great riders developing fantastic relationships with their new equine partners. We were so spoilt for choice and eventing eye candy that this award was pretty tough to decide – Madeline Wilson was the Reserve for her burgeoning rapport with Mumbo Jumbo – but Amanda Ross and her new love, Dicavelli Diesel take the cake. And we do love cake!
The ‘I Embrace Self-Assessment’ Award
Hat’s off to the self-confidence of Rider #77, Sally Townsend who announced on her way past the Sit Tight tent that her spotty horse Kaloona Peregrin Took was Prettiest on Parade. However, who can go past the man who personifies self-confidence?! Shane Rose had a massive moment aboard Mighty Mouse at the Quarry in the CCI One Star and yelled out to Team Sit Tight “Well, THAT wasn’t very good!!” as he cantered onto the next fence. On the next trip through, this time aboard Swiper, he’d barely landed before he’d declared “That was much better!!” Who needs a commentary team, hey?
The Horse Whisperer Award
When Feldale Mouse unexpectedly deposited Isabel English at the water, he immediately ran off and joined the wild bush ponies. A number of horse whispered gathered to the (af)fray and tried to catch the cheeky Connie cross. All were unsuccessful, until Shaun Dillon blew his nose (who knew that was Equine for “Stop! You bugger!”??) and suddenly Mouse submitted to being captured and returned to a soggy rider!
The Concentration Award
STR loves a woman on a mission, and we were impressed with the focus of Tasha Mitchell who, despite Marcia declaring into the speaker in the middle of Tasha’s CCI Two Star showjumping round “We have your daughter in our icebox” (which probably sounded a little more Homicide-Squad than originally intended!) still jumped a wonderful clear round!
So… The next event is ADELAIDE CCI!!!!! We are soooo excited to be making the trip to this pinnacle event of the calendar and we hope that we can see you there or tell you all the exciting stuff as it happens! Tune in between the 17th and the 22nd November to witness the Four Star spectacle!
