Rose and Ross are start to finish winners!
What a fabulous result for the Australian 3DE for 2015!! As a demonstration of cream truly rising to the top Shane Rose and CP Qualified have taken out the CCI**** class in an impressive start to finish affair, with Shane and the equally impressive Virgil finishing on their dressage score to take 2nd – the first time in the history of the event that this has occurred! This has to put Shane in great stead for Rio selection, plus Shane also announced in his acceptance speech that he and Niki are expecting twins, so there are just so many reasons to congratulate this man!! Third in this class was another man that surely must be sending out Save the Date cards for Rio, Clarke Johnson and Balmoral Sensation. This New Zealand combination were consummate throughout and thoroughly deserved their podium finish.
In the CCI** class, Amanda Ross and Dicavelli Diesel also led from beginning to end, and were just as stellar in their winning performance! It goes without saying that we are going to see a lot more of this combination – Amanda flagged in an interview with STR that Diesel would be making the transition to 3 Star without too much further ado – and we are going to love every minute of their journey! Second in the CCI** was the fabulous Judy Clarke and Diablito, becoming a heroine in everyone’s eyes – not just Sit Tight Radio! Third was Sam Lyle and Glenorchy South Park, and we think that Sam is going to like this horse. A lot!
The Anna Savage Memorial award was deservedly won by Christine Bates, while the Peppermint Grove Award for best Aussie based horse went to Jess Manson’s Legal Star. Both women had a cross country day that didn’t quite go to plan, and we are so glad that they were recognised for their brilliance.
Sit Tight Radio had a fantastic week, we are so grateful for all of you who listened and supported, and we are ecstatic that we had such fabulous sponsors. Massive thank you to Van Eyk Horses for signing on as Naming Rights sponsors and for popping into the STR tent to class up the action! Also to Horsewerks Bowral, Bates Equestrian, MJET and Logan Floats for their sponsorship – what a great bunch of people right there!!
STR Awards Night
It was such a privilege to watch the best eventing horses and riders in Australia ride around the beautiful Adelaide Parklands. It’s even more of a honour to bring you the Sit Tight Radio Post Cross Country Awards.
The ‘SAT TIGHT!!’ Award
I never thought I’d see a day where Stuart Tinney gets the ‘SAT TIGHT!!’ award, but here it is. Stuart riding as trailblazer on Pluto Mio in the CCI****, discovered that the idea of 5 strides and 3 strides at Fence 18 – The SA Forestry Huge Oxer and Really Difficult Apexes – turned into 5 strides and 2-and-three-fifths of a stride when you actually did it. Unsurprisingly, Stuart remained cool throughout, landed after the fence and immediately returned to maximum effectiveness.
The Head Lice Inspection Test Award
Virgil, who usually features in the STR awards for entirely different reasons, caught his rider Shane Rose by surprise at the second water crossing for the CCI**** class, unexpectedly chipping an extra stride in to the entry. Shane was spotted closely inspecting the hairs of Virgil’s mane, and one can only assume that the big bay gelding passed his head lice examination.
The F-Bomb Award
It’s not every day that swearing indicates a high level of support for a rider but when Christine Bates had a very inopportune fall from Adelaide Hill, (who had been going amazingly well to that point) it seemed like every eventer in NSW yelled “F&*%!!” at their TV screens. Loudly. And in unison.
The ‘Slow to Begin’ Award
CP Qualified is the current leader of the CCI**** class, so you would think that he has been around enough times to know what happens right after you canter out of the start box? Nup. He appeared to be COMPLETELY taken aback by the idea that he might be expected to travel in a straight line AND jump a fence (who knew!?!?!?!). It took all of Shane’s experience to convince the horse that now would be a good time for him to bring his brain to work.
The Pack-Horse Award
There were lots of horses carrying more than one rider around todays cross country course. Firstly there was Trevalgar II who carried Team Sit Tight around the CCI**** as well his rider Katie Roots. Then there was Jaybee Altitude VEH who, in addition to his jockey Emily McQueen, carried around the whole 14-strong contingent of Van Eyks Horses around the CCI** class! But the award goes to Isabel English’s Feldale Mouse, who carried not just the hopes of an entire breed society around the CCI**** track, but also every person who has ever patted a Connemara pony!
The Final Horse Inspection commences at 8am tomorrow, and then we set about the very serious business of leaving up coloured rails. The CCI** starts at 10am, then we have a World Cup Showjumping class to contend with, before the CCI**** starts at 3:15pm. We hope you can join Sit Tight as we continue to partake of the very best that Aussie eventing has to offer.
Shane and CP Qualified take the lead!
Fri, 20 Nov 2015 – Dressage Day 2
There was a distinct change in the weather for Dressage Day 2 at the Australian 3DE, those who arrived this morning in shorts (plaid or otherwise!) were in for a brisk surprise! The remaining 8 horses completed the CCI** dressage without really troubling the overnight leaders. Our Emily McQueen from Van Eyk Horses rode a nice test on Jaybee Altitude VEH but greenness got in the way of a great score, so their turn to shine will be another day.
The CCI**** dressage made for interesting observation, as there were equal numbers of dummy-spits to personal bests! Any opportunity to watch a horse like CP Qualified (with Shane Rose aboard) perform at his best is an absolute privilege and that is what we were all part of today. He tops the leaderboard with a score of 42.1 penalties – 7 points ahead of BP Flamboyant and Katja Weimann. Next best was Christine Bates and Adelaide Hill on 49.4 and then Katie Roots and Travalgar II brought a tear to everyones eyes by scoring a 49.7 to be in 4th in their very first 4 Star!
The cross country action gets underway at 10am (South Australian time) and it will be a spectacle to behold! Make sure that you tune in to be part of eventing history, and in the meanwhile, you can have a look at the CCI**** course walk on the app!
Diesel is the fuel of the future!
Thu, 19 Nov 2015 – Dressage Day 1
It was a long, hot day in the Sit Tight tent, as all bar 8 competitors in the CCI** completed their dressage test. We saw some brilliant dressage with lots of PB’s recorded, Laura Wallace and Sleeping Tiger definitely ‘werked’ for us (thanks to Horsewerk’s Bowral) and we know that Laura was delighted with the test. We also have an inkling that young Rosie Cohen would have been quite pleased with The Investigator today, he appeared to handle the atmosphere of Adelaide extremely well!
Dicavelli Diesel was absolutely mind-blowing and STR had an amazing chat to Amanda Ross afterwards (well worth a listen, it’s available in the podcast of today). This combination are the current leaders, on a score of 37.4 penalties, and it would not surprise if they remain in the lead at the completion of the class. That being said, we do hope Emily McQueen and Jaybee Altitude VEH can give him a run for his money! Judith Clarke and Diablito were also truly a-maz-ZING and currently sit in 2nd on a score of 44.5 penalties. Megan Jones (also a STR sponsor) and History did a fantastic test early in the day to hold 3rd place on 45.1, while Sam Lyle and Glenorchy South Park are 4th on 47.3 penalties.
We hope you prick your ears tomorrow, as we have the remainder of the CCI** class starting at 8am and the CCI**** kicking off at 10am. It will be a great day’s action!
Not too hot to Trot
Wed, 18 Nov 2015 – 1st Horse Inspection
Well, it was a last minute decision to cover the trot-up due to popular request, but lots of fun was had and the term ‘fedora’ was explored. Sit Tight Radio had some different choices for Best Dressed than the actual judges, but that isn’t surprising given the outfits that we wore…
We thought that for the Ladies, Soigne Jackson was totally winner-winner-chicken-dinner, she looked amazing in her black and white striped dress. Our honourable mentions were Katie Roots, Isabel English, Amanda Ross and Christine Bates ‘Adelaide Shorts’. The actual winner was Michaela Martindale who cracked out the pink bubble dress and matching fascinator.
In the Mens, we decided that Matt Gaske cut a very attractive figure, Shane Rose definitely passed the ‘Would this get into the Members Stand?’ test and Stuart Tinney rocked the blue shorts. However, STR and the judges agreed that John Twomey was head and shoulders above the rest with a great jacket and an awesome hat (whether it is a fedora remains to be seen!).
So much love for Sit Tight!
Wed, 11 Nov 2015
In addition to our fabulous Naming Rights sponsor, Van Eyk Horses aaaaand first-on-board, Logan Floats, we have 3 more awesome businesses advertising with Sit Tight Radio for the upcoming broadcast of the Australian 3DE!! So. Much. Excitement!!!
You will get to see Bates Equestrian Australia in action in the form of Christine Bates, riding her own Adelaide Hill in the CCI**** and the Kinsella family’s Ned O’Reilly in the CCI**. I’m sure we will be talking to the other half of Bates Equestrian, Matt Bates, about all things young horse too!
We are also ridiculously pleased to feature Horsewerks Bowral– Laura and Mummy Wallace will be very busy indeed as they are bringing a shop AND a horse to Adelaide! Laura will be riding Sleeping Tiger in the CCI** class, managing a tradestand and hopefully coming to say hi to STR as well!!
Finally, you will need to prick your ears when we talk to Megan Jones from MJET, because aside from chatting to an STR favourite (and maybe everybody’s favourite!) we will be talking Promectin Plus Mini Rider Sponsorships and this could be you!!
WOW! We are so excited to welcome Van Eyk Horses to STR!!
Sun, 8 Nov 2015
Sit Tight Radio’s broadcast of the Australian 3DE has its very own Naming Rights Sponsor! Van Eyk Horses, an emerging breeding stud nestled in the Victorian High Country, have come on board to get behind their rider Emily McQueen who is piloting Jaybee Altitude VEH around the 2 Star class! She will have the whole VEH team there to support her, so STR can introduce you to a great bunch of girls, keep you up-to-date with how Emily fares and grab some behind the scenes exclusives! We suggest that you head right now to www.veh.com.au and check out the seriously glamorous website, the top shelf horses that VEH are breeding and competing and the girls bios!
Logan Floats joins STR for the trip across the plains!
Tue, 3 Nov 2015
Well, that’s not quite the truth, we’ll meet them there because Logan Floats are based at 250 East Boundary Road, East Bentleigh SA 3165 (you like what I did there?). But, Sit Tight Radio is excited to announce that we have a new sponsor and advertiser for Aus 3DE! We will be sure to catch up with Director, James Deacon (also known as ‘Megan’s James’) for a chat, but in the meantime, go to www.loganfloats.com.au and check out their range! Alternatively, how about a like on Facebook?
