The committee of NCHT can take a breath and quench their hard-earned thirsts today as a very successful CIC event has indeed been run and won. Canberra turned on almost unseasonably warm sunshine (Who’da thought it, right?!?!) and all the changes that the committee have been working so hard on really appeared to pay off.
Sit Tight Radio were in attendance and we have to say that we had a fabulous weekend, so now we will present you with our ‘awards’!
The ‘SAT TIGHT!!!’ Award
Jess Grossman had to channel a bit of Will Enzinger on one of her trips around the EvA95 – we saw her tell the horse to wait, but clearly he heard nothing of the sort and immediately launched (who needs that last stride, anyway?). Much toilet seat required!
Ride of the Day
There are lots of contenders for this award as Stuart Tinney delivered his usual masterclass of cross country riding aboard Annapurna, Shaun Dillon was in hot form on Kinnordy Rubino and Judith Clarke rode her backside off to win the 2 Star but…. Rebel Morrow gets the Sit Tight nod for her expert piloting of Belrieve Ice Queen around the 2 Star cross country track. Effective, beautiful, foot perfect! I think even Rebs would have been happy with that effort!
Riders who need to fit their horse with an oxygen drop-down mask
There were a number of moments on cross country where over-achieving horses jumped so impressively high that their riders may have come down with altitude sickness. We suggest the connections of the following two horses fit them with drop-down oxygen masks, lest such an emergency occur again!
The first horse who needs to be fitted with an oxygen mask facility is 3 Star winner Virgil, ridden by Shane Rose. Virgil is a known for his ability to jump ridiculously big, and there is much photographic evidence of his exploits. I reeeally hope that someone got the money shot of him jumping the footbridge late in the 3 Star course, because at least half of Mt Stromlo would have fitted underneath him!
Stuart Tinney’s Queen Mary also achieved maximum altitude at Fence 12 in the 3 Star. Stuart saw a wonderful moving distance that presented the mare with maximum power and a real ‘sweet spot’ takeoff, and she responded like a jet fighter!
Miss of the Day
Ross Greene, Dressage Judge had something of a miss whilst inspecting his arena on Saturday morning. He mustn’t have got his strides quite right as he stepped over the arena wall, and the subsequent ‘leaving of the toe’ nearly saw him hit the sand before 8am! Never a great way to start the day!
The next stop for the Sit Tight Radio train is Goulburn CCI/CIC and as a preparation for the Big One – Adelaide CCI – it promises to be intensely exciting. Goulburn will also mark the one year anniversary of STR, and we invite our subscribers to come join us here. We’ll have some drinks and nibbles and Fi’s awesome new speaker set up so that you can hear all the action instantly, as well as in fine style!
