Sit Tight Radio has brought our listeners eventing action since 2014 when it was conceived in the back of a horse truck by 2 passionate competitors, Marcia Williamson and Fiona Hughes, who had a vision to bring event commentary to the Australian eventing masses. Sit tight has prided itself on being irreverent, real, informative and most of all a true Australian flavour. Who could forget the terms coined on air such as the lawn dart, airmailed it, rising canter, weather checks (through the dressage tests)?
There are many, many memorable moments we shared as a team and with all our listeners, who will ever forget we covered all Hazel Shannon and Clifford’s Adelaide 5* victories and Clifford’s reign of Tamworth 4*! Trying to bring our listeners the post “race” interviews with Chris Hopkins and Katie Taliana as roving horseback reporters at Equestriad.
And of course, the infamous blue lounge, the cheapest couch purchased at the Salvos store, travelled to more Aussie events than some horses! The blue lounge saw plenty of red wine spilt, occasionally a day bed, a place to quietly die for many a competitor on the Sunday of a 3DE. Drop ins of riders taking up the microphone, sometimes having a quiet snooze during dressage commentary (I’m looking at you pumpkin tits!).
The hilarity of the quizzes, the story telling competitions, the tipping competitions and not to mention (Nairny’s pet hate!) the up late Facebook live craziness.
The trip to Tryon for the 2018 WEG was absolutely the double thickened cream on the cake. We had press accreditation and we were taking full advantage of it as Ros Canter (not trot) and Allstar B claimed the chocolates. We had “big feet” and “word of the day” to keep our commentary team entertained through 84 dressage tests. And we paid homage to the saying When in USA do as Americans do so we hired a massive pickup, went to Walmart (multiple times) and got loud!
Here’s cheers to all of our co commentators! I daren’t even begin to try to list everyone as I will surely miss someone, but to Lindsey “Nairny”, Prue (aka post Tryon hurricane Prudence), Carlene Barton, Matt Ryan, Alex Townsend the best dressage commentator, once only! Lot’s of Victorians, Nina Clarke, Seamus Marwood and Yona Llyod, Jo Brady.
And many fashionistas’ for trot ups, the list is formidable, I salute you all!
The great unpleasantness (Covid 19) meant no events to commentate but we made our own lockdown fun with the Friday not too hard quiz, live to Facebook. Many laughs had, many so called eventing buffs put to the test and many gins consumed, state challenges, the coaches and event organisers all threw their hat in the ring but Nae Nae, Shenae Lowings took the title of champion! Our brains trust Rose Read and Katie Hendo Henderson playing a big role of question writers, after 6 weeks of fun we did run out of puff, but we were zooming before it became cool!
Brings me to a good time to mention our supporters, to which we are so very humbled by your backing, enabling us to travel across the country and to WEG. Starting off with Cross Country App, Van Eyk Horses, Team Bimbadeen, Boonoona Designs, Horsewerks Bowral, Sandhills Horses, Tamworth Horse Transport, TBV Equestrian, Kelvin Grove Equestrian, Falcon Sport Horses, SuccessMasters, Lyle Equestrian, Tinney Equestrian, Hawkesbury Chiropractic, Flyveils by Design, Poseidon Equine and most recently Edwards Saddleworld and all of the supporters, family and friends that have been there for the ride. Thank you!
In numerous country songs there’s the tales of sadness and goodbyes and that it’s over but I reckon ole blue eyes says it best,
“And now, the end is near
And so, I face the final curtain
My friend, I’ll say it clear
I’ll state my case, of which I’m certain
I’ve lived a life that’s full
I travelled each and every highway
And more, much more than this, I did it my way,”
But truly, I have no doubt, we did it our way!
