Sydney International Horse Trials
Saturday 30th April, 2016
2016 Sydney 3 Day Event certainly had an international atmosphere, the main Olympic arena being the focal point of this competition. Cross Country day, Saturday started gloomy and overcast and with extreme sadness we report the event was cancelled due to a tragic accident. Caitlyn Fischer suffered a fall from her horse Ralphie while competing cross country in the CCI 1 star section. Sit Tight Radio sends our condolences to Caitlyn’s family and her extended family of Christine, Matthew and William Bates where Caitlyn and Ralphie had been training in preparation for the Sydney International event. Words are not sufficient to express the sadness and grief the community of Australian eventers and equestrians are feeling.

We kick off the first day of competition thanks to the sponsorship of Falcon Sport Horses, see their fabulous website www.falconsporthorses.com.au and Tamworth Horse Transport as usual sponsoring our weather updates, www.tamhorsetransport.com.au and new to the team TBV Equestrian and Rural supplies supporting the score updates, see their Facebook page.
Friday was the only day of dressage competition, spectacular weather and a true international feel in the main arena made watching a full day of 2 and 3 star horses strut their stuff from 8am till after 4pm quite enjoyable, even for newly co-opted dressage commentator Zanna Northam. In the CCI 2 star class the visitor from the west Shanae Lowings got the nod from both Zanna and myself an extremely exciting young rider with both of her 2 star horses Kinnordy Gymeon and Venture Sky High being well ridden athletic horses, placing 5th and 6th respectively. CP Issey Miyake posted the winning score, ridden by Emma Bishop, has been in scorching hot form in the lead up events. This mare is beautifully bred by Staccato and her mum Isabella Rossellini a very successful 3 star mare previously campaigned by Kadi Eykamp, who now lives in the U.S.
The CIC 3 star got underway with Carlchen and Stuart Tinney, CP Qualified and Shane Rose then followed by Shanae on her third ride for the day Ballyhoo so the standard was amazing from the get go. Qualified had his hair done for this occasion, but the extended walk was marred by ear flapping and head lifting but his score held down the early lead. The final combination of Diablito and Judy Clarke were fluent, obedient and a great partnership to go into the lead, if only by point 9.
The final class being the CCI 3 star had a scattering of newbies to the level and reliable 4 star campaigners. Flashy white legged Parkiarrup Illicit Liaison posted a good score early in the field, a seasoned 4 star combination with Sonja Johnson in the saddle held on through the class till the second last combination of Shane Rose and Shanghai Joe took the lead by 1.8 penalties. Nugget to his friends with Shane back in the saddle looked every bit the winner from the commentary position.

On Thursday the first Horse Inspection took place on the track beside the main arena where the trade stands, including the biggest Wade truck in captivity, were surrounding the opposite side from the grandstand. Sit Tight Radio commentary position was atop the arena, perfectly placed at the end of the runway enabling us the best seat in the house. Both the CCI 2 and 3 star horses were presented to the ground jury on this day, truly a fabulous way to start the event. The winners of the best dressed in the CCI 2 star Mens, Sam Lyle looking uber cool with a blue grey suit, Ladies, Alex Townsend just stunning in a lovely tweed jacket and stylish dress pants. In the CCI 3 star Mens section Andrew Cooper, sporting the very preppy bow tie and jacket. The Ladies winner Madeline Wilson, a simple outfit but for Sit Tight the shoes were the winner! The broadcast was sponsored by Horsewerks Bowral, see their Facebook page and tell Laura Sit Tight Radio sent you
